Client Meeting Experience

  • It’s indeed a sad story while meeting clients; i would like to share one of my experiences at a client meeting. After couple of weeks of clients request for a meeting, I turned up positively to go ahead with the meet. Started my journey to fuel my car , while moving out from the petrol pump a guy started marketing and took away my attention, while watching him i was slowly moving ahead to move out and go ahead for my meeting, before i could see ahead a car came from behind and took right turn to leave out of the petrol pump, my car was just 2 feet away from the place i refilled the car fuel, my car hit this car which came from behind and touched it slightly.
  • I was dam irritated with this and tried to escape, the employee of the petrol pump working there immediately came and grabbed my car keys , this annoyed me more, he was right on his part as being employee he would have to answer the petrol pump owner about the car damage which was slight dent. He took my car keys and went ahead moving towards petrol pump owners cabin. I told the pump owner, I would fill my car fuel and leave, if your car driver comes in between and your pump encourages marketing guys to disturb me, its not my fault. Now the main owner asked the petrol pump employee to speak to another senior person. The employee who still had my car key in his hand took me to another small cabin where he spoke to another senior manager, this manager had a single word with me, and he told that employee to fix up the car and gave me instructed to give my car keys back, this took about 20-30 minutes.
  • Now I’m wondering why is a marketing guy standing at a Fuel pump to irritate the car owners who come to fill petrol, that marketing guy asked for email address and phone number to win a lucky prize. I told him “yes want it”, I will pay you bribe, you tell me if you have any provision for this.
  • I am highly surprised how petrol pump owners allow marketing guys to do this, is there any tie up with these petrol pump guys and marketing companies so that they can earn part time income.
  • The car which I hit was of client of petrol pump and was already under repair, and now it got scratched again. This was indeed a very bad start to my meeting; i got delayed by 1 hour to reach clients office.
  • Finally i managed to reach my clients office, coincidently the client owns a car resale business, they wanted to make their website and renew their existing domain name. The client is asking me to get the website done for $150-$200. I told them that it not possible to do at this price, as cost of only the design of the website is more then that. I gave them example if a car worth $10k would you sell at $5k, the manager had no answer, he said that we want it done at low cost we are really tight on budget. I told him there is a value for the websites we make, it will be done at this price, lower then that you may get it done from alternate providers, I would be very happy if you do that you may do it after you pay me for the cost of registration of the website and its renewal charge.
  • Since i have the domain control panel of this client , i requested them to pay me at least for the domain name and web space renewal fees, they disagreed and told me no, we do not want, we want a full package at $200 including the domain name and web space. I told them that it’s very easy for me to sell out your domain name, if you are serious you let me know, and i left out of their office. They do business of almost more then $20k a month, its hard to believe their company website budget is $200.
  • I gave up trying to explain their manager, their company owner, they had no intention to pay beyond $200. I gave them ideas to make $100k additional from their business, but all in vain.
  • Moral of the experience is that, confirm everything via internet and online , do not meet such clients who do not have respect, beware about clients who do not wish to succeed and do not want you to move ahead in life. Do online meeting before doing a real meeting with clients.
  • Charge the clients if they ask you for a meeting to meet them personally, send them my email all the packages. Do not do any business without advances with clients.
  • Give them money back if they are unsatisfied but avoid doing a single transaction without taking advances. Make your own principles in business and follow them. And feel free to drop the deals, there are many players in market and many clients, one deal gone will make no difference, just ensure to do quality work for quality people. Thanks for your time reading, feel free to share your reviews.
